Switch Replacement Parts Are Easy To Find And Install

The weakest part of any sump pump is the switch. All sump pump switches fail at some point and must be replaced. Unfortunately, many switches fail and the motor overeheats even though thermal overload protection is found in pumps. When this happens it is too late to save the sump pump. Since switches are easy to find and install it is best to change the switch every three to five years depending upon how frequently the motor runs. The Big Box sump pump switches generally fail more quickly than brands such as Zoeller, Wayne, Liberty and Little Giant which are tested to around one million cycles. Rather than wait until the switch fails, it is smarter to change the switch periodically.

Manufacturers generally provide replacement switches for only sump pumps with cast iron housing. Thermoplastic housing does not last as long; therefore manufacturers consider them throw away pumps. If a thermoplastic sump pump does not burn out when the switch fails, it is possible to use one of the new switches such as the HC6000. Learn more about the ne3w switch type (HC6000) that can be used with any sump pump with running amps of less than 13.5. Currently we do not know of any pump with running amps of 13.5, especially since manufacturers seek to build energy efficient pumps.

Using the HC6000 switch type with pumps that have an existing piggy back plug is easy. Just tape the float cord to the discharge pipe and plug the pump cord into the back of this switch because it allows a motor cord to plug into it. If the exisitng sump pump does not have a piggyback switch, raise the float to its highest postion and tie it is place; then plug the motor cord into the HC6000.
