Have you really taken the time to understand your water pump needs, especially your sump pump needs? Not all sump pumps have the same shut off height. The length and height of your discharge piping will determine the size of sump pump needed. Specifications tell you how much water can be pumped by a sump pump at a specific vertical height. Sump pumps also have a shut off height which means they will cease to pump when that height and distance is exceeded.

Do you live in a high water table area and your pump runs even when it does not rain? The float ON OFF height determines how frequently the pump motor runs. The more frequently the pump runs for short periods of time, the more likely the pump motor will fail prematurely. In situations like this, it is best to buy a non-automatic submersible pump and install a piggyback float switch so you can control the float ON OFF height.

Did you know the design for handling small pebbles or debri differs by pump brand? Most sump pumps use a bottom screen which can become clogged. Brands like Zoeller and Liberty use a vortex impeller which is designed to allow small pebbles and debris to pass through.

Did you think buying a thermoplastic sump pump was best because it is cheapest? Over time themoplastic can warp or crack if used heavily continuously. Cast Iron is most definately strong and more durable.
