Quick Info About Zoeller Sump Pump vs Everbilt Sump Pump

Both Zoeller And Everbuilt are headquartered in the USA; however Zoeller manufactures its pumps in the USA and Everbilt has China make their pumps.
Both brands perform testing; however Zoeller tests each pump while Everbilt tests only one pump per a model series and randomly tests others.
Both brands are eco-conscious; however, Zoeller replacement parts can be purchased easily online from multiple websites while Everbilt parts can only be purchased from Home Depot.
Both are competitively priced. The price difference is around $10.
The Everbilt cast iron one-third horse power sump pump has a greater GPM and GPH, gallons pumped per minute and gallons pumped per hour), but the one-half horse power Everbilt has a lower pump performance at a 10 foot vertical height than the Zoeller M95.
Only Zoeller offers manual models. Manual sump pumps give the owner an opportunity to use the float switch of their choice with the pump. Many choose to use an electronic switch because they last longer and the ON and OFF height can be customized. We use the electronic switch, HC6000. We installed the HC6000 in 2011 and it has not failed yet after 12 years.
Other differences are revealed below for GPH, AMPs used, design, and more.

Where Are Zoeller and Everbilt Sump Pumps Made?

Zoeller's Professional, Premium and Flow Mate submersible sump pump models are made in the USA. Zoeller has been in the pump manufacturing business since 1939 and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.

Zoeller Sump Pump Company Headquarters in Louisville Kentucky

Zoeller is a family owned business and a full pledged USA pump manufacturing company doing the design engineering, manufacturing, assembling, testing, packing, shipping, marketing, training and support. They make and manufacturer their pumps (the Professional, Premium and Flow Mate Models) and are proud to be known as a Made In The USA company.

Everbilt is located in Ashland Ohio. They are a trademark of Home Depot as of October 2014 so provide pumps according to a Home Depot contract.

Everbilt, part of the Ashland Water Group, is responsible for the engineering design and marketing of the Everbilt and Eco-Flo pumps. China actually manufactures and packages the Everbuilt and Eco-Flo pumps.

Which Sump Pump, Zoeller or Everbilt, Is Factory Tested?

Zoeller sump pump is factory tested. In fact two tests are performed on each sump pump: a leak test and a performance test. Since each pump is tested before leaving the factory, the installer can be assured that the pump will work when installed.

Each Zoeller Sump Pump is factory tested for leaks and performance.

Only a representative sample of Everbilt pumps are randomly tested to ensure the model's design is capable of meeting the published pump performance numbers. The warranty is used to cover sump pumps that may fail when initially installed or soon thereafter. Both brands have a three year warranty.

Are Replacement Parts Available For Zoeller and Everbilt?

The float switch is generally the first thing to fail on a sump pump because it is a mechanical part. Because Zoeller pumps are built to last several decades, switches and other parts are easy to purchase online from multiple websites and even a do-it-yourself home owner can install a replacement switch. This option replaces the Switch Cap. This is a quick way to replace the switch because a new switch comes preinstalled in the new cap.

Zoeller Sump Pump Float Switches Are Easy To Buy Online and Install.

Everbilt does provide replacement switches for its cast iron sump pumps; they can be purchased from Home Depot.

What Is The Sump Pump Float Switch Type?

Both Zoeller and Everbilt use a snap action float switch on their cast iron models. This is the best option for an integrated vertical float switch. Here's why.

Both Everbilt and Zoeller Use A Snap Action Float Switch

Ground water contains mineral contaminates. Over time these contaminates build on the float to switch connector and weaken the connection. Without a solid connection, the switch will fail to operate properly. Either it will fail to connect and stay in the OFF position or it will connect and fail to disconnect when the water recedes in the basin. Such switch action causes sump pump failure.

The snap action vertical float switch relies on friction force caused when the water raises the float in the pit to the switch ON point which connects the positive and negative electric circuits in the switch case and the electric current flows to the pump.

The switch parts are sealed from mineral contamination and water by a rubber gasket sitting between the switch case and the pump housing with the motor.

Installing a Zoeller pump does have an advantage however because its replacement switch parts are very easy to purchase online and install for a do-it-yourself home owner.

How Many Gallons Per Hour Does The 1/3 HP Sump Pump?

Regardless of the vertical height the water is pumped, the Everbilt one-third HP cast iron sump pump has a better pump performance; the Everbilt HDS30 can pump 600 gallons more per hour than the Zoeller 1/3 HP pump.

Here's an example of a sump pump performance curve. It tells how much water a sump pump can pump in a specific time period at a specific height.

The Zoeller M53, M55, M57, M59 and M63 1/3 HP cast iron sump pumps 2680 GPH (44 GPM) at 0 feet; 2680 GPH at 5 feet (44 GPM); and 2,040 GPH (34 GPM) at a 10 foot vertical height.

How Many Gallons Per Hour Does The 1/2 HP Sump Pump?

The upgraded Zoeller M95 can pump 180 gallons more per hour at a 10 foot vertical height than the Zoeller M98 and the Everbilt HDS50.

The Zoeller upgraded M95 pumps 4800 GPH (80 GPM) at a 0 vertical height and 3960 GPH (66 GPM) at a 10 foot vertical height. The Zoeller M98 sump pump with cast iron housing pumps 4320 GPH (72 GPM) at 0 feet and 3,660 GPH (61) at a 10 foot vertical height.

How Many Gallons Per Hour Does The 3/4 HP Sump Pump?

Zoeller does not make a three-fourths HP sump pump.

The Everbilt HDS75 3/4 HP cast iron sump pumps 6000 GPH (100 GPM) at 0 feet and 4800 GPH (80 GPM) at 10 foot vertical height.

Will These Cast Iron Sump Pumps Rust?

Both brands add a powder coated epoxy finish to the cast iron to retard rust. The Zoeller sump pump housing is known to last as long as 40 years without rusting through.

The fasteners are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel will not rust.

Which Sump Pump Motor Is Best?

Zoeller's sump pump motors are best.

We recommend Zoeller sump pump motors even though Everbilt motors pump more water per hour.

Zoeller makes their own motors in the USA. Everbilt motors are made in China.

Zoeller pumps use two layers of cast iron to dissipate motor heat: the motor housing is cast iron and the pump body housing is cast iron. An air vacuum is created between the two layers to also effectively pass the heat from the pump. Good heat dissipation extends the life of a motor.

Here's an inside view of a Zoeller Sump Pump showing the cast iron motor and housing layer.

Zoeller motors are designed to keep 20% of their available capability in reserve to handle an additional demand.

For Everbilt pumps the motor housing is also the pump body housing. There are not two layers of cast iron housing to dissipate heat.

Is There An Energy-Efficient Sump Pump?

The Everbilt cast iron sump pumps are more energy efficient than the Zoeller models.

The Everbilt HDS30, a one-third HP, is most energy efficient using 6.5 Amps. The Everbilt cast iron pump HDS50 uses 8.5 Amps while the Zoeller M50 Series and the M63 use 9.7 Amps. The M98 uses 9.7 Amps and the M95 uses 10.5 Amps.

The electricity cost of using a ¼ HP and a 1/3 HP sump pump is around $10 - $20 a month when used heavily during rainy months. The electricity cost for using a ½ HP and ¾ HP pump is around $30 - $40 a month during heavy usage.

When converting Amps to wattage, 6.5 Amps is 780 watts; 8.5 Amps is 1020 watts and 9.7 Amps is 1164 watts.

Can These Sump Pumps Be Installed Outdoors And Submerged In Water?

Yes, these Zoeller and Everbilt sump pumps can be installed outdoors and submerged in water. The electrical parts that could be affected by water are sealed so no water can affect them. It is common for sump pump basins to be installed outdoors next to the house. It does not matter how much the sump pump is submerged in a water catch basin; they are made to be submersed in water.

Can These Sump Pumps Handle Small Debris?

Yes, both the Zoeller and Everbilt use a vortex impeller which means they are capable of handling solids one-half inch or so. Using a vortex impeller is helpful for basins that contain small pea gravel or other small debris. These sump do not use a bottom screen which can become clogged and result is pump failure if not cleaned.

This is what a vortex impeller looks like.

Our Recommendation

We have tried Big Box Store brands but they do not last long for us. The switch fails too quickly. We are grateful our plumber friend recommended Zoeller to us many years ago. Zoeller offers so many advantages as we have already mentioned above and throughout our website.

Recommnended Zoeller Profession and Premium Sump Pump Brand Is pictured here

We are very happy with our Zoeller sump pumps and sewage pump. Our M53 is 17 years old and still running. We have replaced the switch and gasket once. It was easy to replace. Our M267 is 10 years old and is still running. We have had no issues with it. Our M98 is 9 years old and still running without issues.

How To Install A Sump Pump

The installation of a Zoeller and Everbilt are the same though the Everbilt pumps are slightly over one-half inch wider in diameter.

Zoeller And Everbilt Sump Pump Installation Steps

Step 1 - Unplug the old pump from the electrical wall socket. A sump pump should not use an extension cord and needs its own wall socket.

Removing a sump pump from the basin after unplugging it and loosening the discharge pipe.

Step 2 - Detach the check valve from the discharge piping. Detach the old sump pump from the discharge pipe. Remove the pump from the basin and empty trapped water.

Detach discharge pipe and check valve from old pump. Move old pump out of the way.

Step 3 - Remove the new pump from its packaging. Add the connector to the pump discharge port along with a length of discharge piping. In most cases the old discharge pipe can be used. Check its length. It may need to be shortened or another piece added.

Remove the new pump from its packaging then put discharge pipe in pump port

Step 4 - Install a new quiet check valve. A new check valve is recommended whenever a new pump is installed. The check valve prevents water from recycling through the pump and back into the basin when the motor stops. It extends the life of a pump motor.

Install a new check valve when replacing the pump. Check valves are easy to install.

Step 5 - Place the pump in the pit to check discharge pipe length and adjust accordingly.

Measure the height so the new pump can connect to the discharge pipe

Step 6 - Make sure the pump is sitting solid in the basin. Attach the pump discharge pipe to the check valve. Plug the pump power cord into the wall socket.

Pictured new pump in basin and check valve attached to pump pipe.

Step 7 - Pour enough water into the basin to cause the pump to run. Check for leaks. If there are no leaks and the pump runs quietly and removes the water from the pit, you are done.

Congratulations on a successful installation of your new sump pump.
