Do you have a backup sump pump for your primary sump pump? Have you thought about it but never taken action?
Is the Zoeller 507 Right For You? The Following Questions Will Hep You
Will the Zoeller 507 fit in your sump pit? How big is your sump pit? The Zoeller 507 is a battery backup sump pump and is meant to be used with a primary sump pump; it is also light weight and best installed mid-air inline vertically with the discharge pipe just above your primary pump. Therefore, the sump pit should be preferably 18 inches in diameter and preferably 24 inches deep; however, based on the size of your primary sump pump and where you wish to install the backup pump, it could fit snugly in a 14 inch diameter pit or a 20 inch deep sump pit. Does the Zoeller 507 have enough pumping capability for the water flow into your pit during heavy rains? Model 507 can pump up to 23 gallons per minute (GPM) (or 1380 GPH) at a 5 foot vertical lift or 15 gallons per minute (GPM) (or 900 GPH) at a 10 foot vertical lift. Is the total dynamic head in your discharge piping system less than 15 feet? Unlike other pump manufacturers, Zoeller is more precise in presenting the performance rating of their pumps. Competitors only speak of lift feet. Zoeller includes the decrease of pump capability due to elbows, check valves and length of horizontal feet in the discharge pipe system. Inclusion of these additional elements is called total dynamic head and provides a more accurate measurement of how much water will be pumped per minute. To calculate the total dynamic head, identify the size of your discharge piping, measure the number of vertical discharge pipe feet (static head); then measure the number of horizontal discharge pipe feet to pump the water out of the piping system. Count the number of 45 degree elbows and the number of 90 degree elbows. Combine the number of horizontal pipe feet, 2.2 feet for each 45 degree elbow, and 4 feet for each 90 degree elbow (friction head). If the friction head feet are less than 53 feet and the water flow rate into the pit during a heavy rainstorm is less than 35 GPM the pump will work in your situation. If the friction feet are more than 53 feet the pump may work for you but the pumping capability will be cut around 25% if your lift (vertical feet) is not more than 10 feet. What are some of the key features? The Zoeller 507 Backup Sump operates on a fully charged 12 volt deep cycle marine battery with battery group size 27 for 7 1/2 continuous hours and even longer if it runs intermittently. This battery group size will keep the pump operating continuously for 7 1/2 hours and even longer if it runs intermittently. If the Zoeller Aquanot maintenance-free AGM battery is used, the pump has a warranty of 3 years otherwise it has a warranty of 1 year. All Zoeller pumps are pressure tested at the factory to guarantee they will work when installed. If the 507 is installed with a Zoeller Aquanot AGM battery the pump warranty is 3 years. If another battery is used the warranty is 1 year. Most competitor pumps have warranties ranging from 1 to 3 years. Back to 507 Battery Backup Index
An alarm will warn you when the backup pump is running and will beep continuously when the battery charge is low. The controller is fully equipped with alarms and light indicators. The alarm will sound continuously when the pump is in use. The long lasting LED light indicators will inform you when the power supply is on, when the battery is partially or fully charged, if the pump is running, and if the pump alarm is off. The 10 amp battery charger can recharge a fully depleted battery in approximately 16 hours. Many backup pump battery chargers take up to 48 hours. The pump housing and volute are made of thermoplastic which is common for battery sump pumps. The impeller is polycarbonate which is very strong, hard to break and temperature resistant. It can operate up to 150 degrees. This is important because in an emergency water situation the pump may run continuously for several hours. Preferable pump installation is mid-air inline with the vertical discharge pipe above your primary pump. Such an installation means the pump would not sit on the bottom of the pit and be subjected to the possibility of getting a clogged impeller from debris and pea gravel on the bottom of the basin. The pump is light weight. It is also possible to install it in on the bottom of the pit beside a primary sump pump since it has protection to keep debris and pea gravel from entering the impeller. The float switch is reliable and low voltage. It comes with either a tether or vertical float. The vertical float requires minimal room and it is highly unlikely to get stuck or hung up on the basin wall. The battery box is made of non corrosive polyethylene and is sized to accommodate any brand or group size 27 deep cycle marine battery (13"(L) x 71/2"(W) x 91/2"(H). It also comes with a lock strap. All necessary fittings are included with the pump including a check valve at the point of its discharge. Back to 507 Backup Index

Is the Zoeller 507 Battery Backup Sump Pump right for your backup needs? Do you have a sump pit 18 inch diameter and 24 inch deep sump pit? Or something close to that? You could place the backup pump on the basin floor. Or the height of your primary pump may be lower than 12 inches. Does your discharge piping have less than a 15 foot total dynamic head? Total dynamic head is vertical discharge pipe feet (Static head feet) plus frictional head feet (45 and 90 degree elbow conversion and horizontal discharge pipe feet). If the frictional head feet are less than or equal to 53 feet, this pump will meet your pumping needs as a backup pump. Is the rate of water flowing into your pit less than 23 gallons per minute and your vertical lift is 5 feet or is the rate of water flowing into your pit less than 15 gallons per minute and your vertical lift is 10 feet or less? The Zoeller 507 is quality backup built with those important features you would expect to find in a pump to protect your basement from a flood in case your primary sump electricity fails. Zoeller and all of its parts are made in the USA. It has good quality with a fair price. |
As for the cost, the price is very competitive with other name brand pumps of same pumping capacity. Cost ranges from $220 to $280. This is a good deal.
Last week the following link showed a price of $220 for the Zoeller 507-0005 Basement Sentry Battery Backup Pump.
The Zoeller 508-0005 Aquanot 508 Battery Back-Up System was around $335.

Customer ReviewsCustomers give the 507 Model high rating. Here's what some customers are saying about the Model 507 (Customer Reviews). Not Used Yet, But it worked when tested, Aug. 5, 2010 I unplugged my Zoeller M53 main pump. I then filled up my sump pit with water. It took a lot of water to even reach the 507's float switch, but eventually the water was high enough for the float switch and the little 12-volt pump kicked in. It was so quiet. While it was pumping, I kept dumping water until it reached the two 4" basin input pipes. It didn't take long for the 507 pump to lower the water level to the point that the floating switch turned off. I then plugged in my primary M-53 in again, and in a very short time the water was out of the basin. It works!, May 23, 2009 By A Diceini, ILI have two Zoeller pumps in the pit: a Zoeller M53 and the 507 Basement Sentry. Walking in the door of our home after a one week vacation (during which time we got over 4 inches of rain), I head the battery alarm in the basement going off. I found out the M53 was obstructed, but the basement was completely dry. The alarm went off because the battery sump pump was running. My 507 did its duty when the M53 malfunctioned. Since this incident, I was able to fix the M53 and it has been functioning fine. I am glad I had the Zoeller 507! Peace of mind when we're gone, August 1, 2010 Tim Krause, Hillside, KS We always stayed at home so were around to watch our pumps and used a manual portable generator if the electricity went out for our primary pump. Now we are retired and we want to travel. So we installed a 507. It was easy to install after reading the clear and concise directions. We like the fact that it can be installed mid-air since it is light weight. We also like the ease of the float adjustment. Necessary to have, June 19, 2010 Pat Mason, USA We have a primary pump and had a concern of power failure and what would happen to our finished basement. The Zoeller 507 gives us piece of mind and provides everything necessary from a good name brand for an easy installation. We haven't had ours run for a long time yet, but Zoeller claims the system will run on battery power for 7 hours continuous. We didn't have nearly that amount of vertical room they suggest so had to space things more closely together vertically. Overall, this is a good product, One thing I did differently than the installation instructions is not glue everything together so that if I need to replace something I can easily remove the pump.
