Quick Info On The Sump Pump Battery Back Up Float Switch
♦ Three float switch types are used most frequently: vertical, tether and diaphragm.
♦ The float switch triggers the switch to activate which runs the backup sump pump so it is very important. Choose yours wisely.
♦ The vertical float switch is used most commonly. It takes less basin diameter and does not get caught as easily.
♦ The float switch can be adjusted because backup sump pump float switches are not part of the pump.
♦ The float switch is easy to replace because it is not an attached to the pump. It is external from the pump.
Backup Sump Pump Float Switch Similarities
♦ The purpose of the three float switch types is the same. The switch is the mechanism used to respond to water in the basin. When the water reaches a specific height and pressure, the switch activates the pump to run. When the water recedes in the basin below the switch the pump stops running.
♦ The float switches are not physically attached to the pump. The switches are solid state and attached to the discharge pipe through which the water being removed from the basin flows. They are easy to remove and replace.
♦ The switch height is customizable. The switch can be attached to the discharge pipe at any height; however it is important it be attached so the ON point is above the primary pump ON height and that it its ON point be below the bottom of the pipe coming into the basin from the drain tile.
♦ The float switches must be attached to the discharge pipe on the back side so water flowing into the basin does not come in contact with it and cause a false switch activation.
♦ These float switches can be easily replaced by just detaching them from the discharge pipe and installing new ones.
Recommended Float Switch Type
We recommend the vertical float switch for the following reasons.
♦ The vertical float takes less basin space when responding to the rising and lowering of the water in the basin.
♦ The vertical float switch is least likely to get caught or tangled in the basin.
