What Is The Official Name Of The WIFI Sump Pump Smart Outlet?

The PumpSpy PSO1000 WIFI Sump Pump Smart OutletThis Smart Outlet is known as the PumpSpy PSO1000 WIFI Sump Pump Smart Outlet. It is known as a Smart Outlet because it has an embedded data chip which collects data from the wattage used by the primary-pump in your home which is plugged into the Smart Outlet as it performs its routine activities. It is a WIFI device because it is connected to your WIFI network and it sends its data from your home through cable or phone line which has been enabled by your internet service to a PumpSpy monitoring service center.

How To Identify The PumpSpy SPO100 Smart Outlet

The PumpSpy PSO1000 Hooked UpThe Outlet is whitish in color and lights up with a green circle around the upper receptacle when the power is on. The voltage must be 120V. The Smart electrical outlet is a socket that connects an electrical device to an electricity supply. The electrical device is for the primary sump pump which is plugged into the upper receptacle of the Smart Outlet. If a battery backup sump exists it is plugged-into the bottom receptacle. Even though the battery backup pump may be plugged-into the outlet, the water level in the pit will raise the float switch which will activate the battery backup pump.

What Makes PumpSpy Sump Pump Smart Outlet Unique?

Currently this WIFI outlet is the only device which has 24 x 7 x 365 monitoring service for at least eight primary sump pump problems. The monitoring service center collects watt usage for many pumping situations. The different wattage uses are recorded. Each time the pump runs, new data is generated and it is analyzed by the service center computer which determines if it is abnormal based on previous run activity.

PumpSpy PSO1000 Monitoring ActivitiesAbnormal activity is identified by change in pump cycles, running time, amp draw and other parameters during activities such as AC power failure, primary switch failure, impending pump failure, end of useful pump life, blocked or frozen discharge line, broken check valve, jammed pump impeller, air locked pump, high water and others. When these abnormalities occur a detailed alert is sent via email, text message, or push notifications via the PumpSpy App to your Smart phone. If the pump fails for any reason except for power outage, you will not be able to remotely start the pump.

Anytime of the day when you are wondering if the primary-pump is working, you can open the PumpSpy app from a Smart phone and see real-time status information. Anywhere you have access to WIFI, the status can be checked. There is no need to get up from a sound sleep and go to the basement when you are awakened by heavy rains, just check your phone.

Competitors only monitor when the battery backup sump-pump activates because its float switch sensed water which means for some reason the primary-pump failed. The alert is sent after the primary-pump has already failed.

What Is Needed To Use The WIFI Sump Pump Smart Outlet?

Ten items are required to use the WIFI Smart Outlet.

  1. 1) House WIFI service. Communication with Smart Home hubs like Google Home or Alexa are planned for late 2018 or early 2019.
  2. 2) Ability to get WIFI connection from where the Smart Outlet is plugged in. Your sump-pump has a limited power cord length which gives very little leeway as to where the outlet can be plugged in. Extension cords should not be used.
  3. 3) Smart Device which runs an Apple or Google Play App. The PumpSpy Battery backup system has an extra operating system it can send messages to: Windows 8, 9. 10. Installation of the app on a WIFI devices is wise. There is no limit as to how many mobile numbers and email addresses PumpSpy notifies.
  4. 4) Any sump-pump brand that uses 120 Volt can be used. It cannot be 220 volt.
  5. 5) Indoor usage with temperature range between 32 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. 6) Active Power. 120V, 15A, 60 Hz. It will not work when the power is out.
  7. 7) Multiple pumps require multiple Outlets. Each PumpSpy PSO1000 Outlet only has one Smart receptacle. More than one device can be used; however each should be plugged-into its own wall socket. It should be plugged-into a single wall outlet. Plugging something into the bottom receptacle will not give monitoring capability. Only the top receptacle has the data chip.
  8. 8) Assigned unique names. If multiple primary pumps are installed, each must have a unique name. All alerts will be issued referring to the "name" the pump has been assigned by you.
  9. 9) Connection to a surge protector works. Make sure the surge protector is high quality.
  10. 10) Purchase of an additional extension for the high water sensor may be required if there is more than a ten foot distance from the Outlet to the pit.

How To Install PumpSpy PSO1000

Installation is easy and fast. Here are thirteen quick steps.

PumpSpy PSO1000 Installation
  1. 1) Connect the Smart Outlet to your WIFI Network.
  2. 2) Download and install the PumpSpy App on your smart devices.
  3. 3) Open the App and Create a new PumpSpy account. Have your 15 digit serial number found on the back of the unit available.
  4. 4) Unplug your primary sump pump from the wall A/C outlet.
  5. 5) Plug the Smart Outlet into a wall A/C socket. The best way to do this is to remove the wall outlet over screw and then secure the Smart Outlet to the power outlet with the included mounting screw. If removing the screw is not possible or desired, make sure the outlet is firmly plugged-into the power outlet and is flush as possible with the wall. The LED ring will light up yellow.
  6. 6) Connect you Smart phone to the Smart Outlet. Go to settings; select WIFI; select the WIFI network "PumpSpy".
  7. 7) Setup the PumpSpy Outlet. Open the app; select your WIFI network from the available list of networks; enter your network password and press "done".
  8. 8) Watch for the LED ring to turn green on the Outlet. The green ring indicates the Outlet is connected to the PumpSpy monitoring and ready to be used. A success message should appear.
  9. 9) Enter your Contacts (cell phone numbers and emails) using the App.
  10. 10) Plug the primary sump pump into the Smart Outlet.
  11. 11) Attach the high water level sensor to the outlet and to the discharge pipe.
  12. 12) Test the messaging alerts once everything is setup. Unplug the PSO1000 and see if you receive alerts to your phones.
  13. 13) Test the "home network down - power failure" by removing the modem (router) from the electricity source. Wait for a message.

What Happens When The Power Goes Out?

The Outlet has no capability to keep the primary-pump operating if the electricity fails. The Outlet stores only enough power to keep working for several seconds after the power goes out and send a "tripped breaker/power fail" message. If two minutes pass and the device does not make contact with PumpSpy's monitoring system an alert will be sent. If your WIFI network has backup power, the device will continue to work even though the primary-pump will not. In such a case, an alert will be sent indicating the primary-pump is not working because it has no electricity.

The most helpful feature is that even though the power goes out and you are not home, when the electricity comes back on, the PumpSpy Outlet will automatically re-connect to your WIFI and sent an alert stating the power is restored.

How Does PSO1000 Work With An Existing Backup System?

The PSO1000 will do nothing with a Battery Backup System. It will not monitor it. It will not relay alrets from another product. It will monitor only pumps that run on 120V. The backup-pump can be plugged-into the lower receptacle; however this receptacle is only a 120 V pass through outlet which means that the backup adapter is only using the receptacle as a place holder and does not draw electricity from the outlet.

If your backup system requires the primary-pump to be plugged into it, changes will need to be made. The primary-pump must be plugged into the PumpSpy PSO1000 top receptacle. The backup pump can be plugged into the bottom receptacle which non-monitoring. A high water sensor should be mounted on the discharge pipe just below the point where the battery backup system turns on.

The Cost

New technology always has a higher price tag. Research and developments cost need to be recouped in some manner. The computer equipment monitoring the system also requires financial support. The monitoring cost is built into the cost of the product. Remember, there is no additional monitoring fee once you buy the product. Monitoring service is FREE.

Compared to the potential damage that can occur from a failed primary-pump which causes a flooded basement, the cost is minimal. The issue of potential mold makes the Smart device worth every penny. Mold is a hazard to one's health. Once it starts growing it is nasty to get rid of. In addition anything that is on the basement floor will get ruined. Depending upon height of the flooded water, appliance and furnace motors can also be ruined which is a much greater expense that a couple hundred dollars.
